Stretching our Mind

Move your body. Strengthen what holds you up.

I know this post is titled Stretching Our Mind but I want to begin with the body, because the two are inseparable. Strength training gives you muscle definition, yes, but more than that — muscles hold up the skin, support the skeleton, keep you moving and active and upright as you age. Pull, push, balance, hold, twist. These things matter.

Find a professional trainer who can teach you correct form. They have worked hard for their qualifications and they know their stuff. Learn to train properly — not just in the gym, but so that you can do it at home too. You don’t need a gym every day. You need knowledge, consistency and motivation.

And the mind? Stretch that too. Every single day.

Our minds need challenge, curiosity and new ideas. Read something outside your usual territory. Listen to a podcast that makes you think differently. Learn something that feels slightly beyond you right now. That stretching feeling — the slight discomfort of a new idea — is your mind growing.

Pair that with journalling, and something remarkable happens. When you write by hand about something you’ve just learnt or experienced, you process it differently. Your handwriting slows your thoughts down enough to integrate them. You make connections you wouldn’t have made otherwise. The neuroscience is clear — writing by hand helps memory, helps learning, helps you absorb and own new ideas.

Your wellbeing isn’t just about feeling calm. It’s about feeling alive. Stretch everything.
