Hydrate Body & Mind

Water. We are up to 60% water and yet most of us are walking around in a permanent state of dehydration without even knowing it.

Keep a water bottle with you. Sip all day. It is the simplest thing and yet so many of us forget to do it until we have a headache, feel sluggish or can’t concentrate. And often, when we think we’re hungry, we’re actually thirsty. Have a glass of water before you eat — you might be surprised.

Water is vital for your muscles, your joints, your brain, your immune system, your digestion and your energy levels. Start your day with a glass before coffee, before tea, before anything else. Just water. Your body has been without it all night — give it what it needs first.

And I want to connect this to your wellbeing more broadly, because I always think everything is connected. When you are dehydrated, your thinking becomes foggy. Your mood drops. Your patience shortens. You feel more anxious, more tired, more overwhelmed. The body and mind are not separate — they are absolutely one.

That is why simple acts of physical care — drinking enough water, getting outside, moving your body — support your mental and emotional health just as much as the deeper inner work. And the deeper inner work? That is where journalling comes in. Your handwriting practice, your quiet time with the page, works so much better when you are nourished, rested and hydrated.

Take the glass of water. Drink it. Then pick up your pen.
