The Moon & Me

Have you ever really thought about our connection with the moon?

I remember sitting on my mother’s knee in 1969, staring up at the night sky when she told me there was a man who had just landed up there. I have felt a connection to the moon ever since. Something about it caught me that night and never let go.

So much in nature is governed by the lunar cycle. Birds migrating, coral spawning, the tides, the seasons. If the moon has that much influence over the vast natural world, is it so strange to think we might feel it too? Have you ever felt completely alive — buzzing and restless — around a Full Moon? Or conversely, a little flat, a little tired? I’ve spoken to so many women who notice exactly this.

I like to believe that something as extraordinary as the moon — that great glowing presence that has lit up the dark sky since the beginning of time — is somehow FOR us. A reminder that we are part of something much bigger than the daily to-do list.

I use the lunar cycle as part of my wellbeing practice. The New Moon is a beautiful time for journalling about what I want to call in. What do I want to grow? What intentions am I setting? And the Full Moon is the time to release. What am I ready to let go of? What has been weighing on me? I write it all down. The handwriting matters — there is something about the physical act of writing your intentions under a Full Moon that feels both ancient and deeply personal.

Try it. Next Full Moon, light a candle, pick up your pen, and write what you are releasing. See how it feels.
