Feet

Your feet take you everywhere. Every single day. And I bet you barely give them a second thought.

I ground myself to the earth by walking barefoot in my garden every morning when I feed the birds. Even in early spring. Even when it’s a bit chilly! That connection between the soles of your feet and the ground beneath you is called earthing, and it genuinely regulates your nervous system. Try it — it sounds a bit out there and then you do it for a week and you will not stop.

Don’t neglect your feet. They deserve nurturing. They work relentlessly.

Give them a proper evening of attention. Lie down, feet in the air, and make circles with your ankles — ten times one way, ten times the other. Then exfoliate them, rinse with warm water, massage them with a lovely oil or rich cream, and pop them up for a well-earned rest. Book a reflexology appointment if you can — you will be amazed at what a foot massage can tell you about your body.

And paint those toenails! A small act of self-care that makes you feel looked-after every time you glance down.

I mention feet in the same breath as wellbeing and journalling because I think self-care and self-awareness are always connected. When you start paying attention to the parts of yourself you usually ignore, something shifts. Try writing about what you are grateful your body does for you — and include your feet. This kind of handwriting practice, gratitude directed inward at your own body, builds a relationship with yourself that changes how you feel. Profoundly.

Take care of the things that carry you forward.
